Apprenticeship as Structural Engineering Designer

…On the contrary! Structural Engineering Designers (formerly known in Germany as Drafters) are the first point of contact when it comes to plans. Quite simply: no plan, no construction project! Using specialized computer programs such as CAD, they create technical construction drawings. In doing so, they connect the creativity of architects with the precise calculations of engineers. The result: a detailed construction plan that colleagues in the precast concrete plant and carpentry workshop can then use to carry out their work.

At HERING, we offer training in the fields of civil engineering and architecture.

Trainer Franziska Ruther
A qualifying and comprehensive apprenticeship as a drafter – both in civil engineering and in the architectural field – is the best foundation for many career paths across the entire construction sector. And having a broad skill set will only become more important in the future!

Structural Engineering Designer apprenticeships usually start on August 1.

The apprenticeship as a drafter takes 3 years, with the possibility of shortening the duration.

02

Is an apprenticeship in construction worth it?

An apprenticeship in construction is definitely worthwhile. Here is the current apprenticeship pay, depending on the year of training:

€1,080 | €1,300 | €1,550

On top of that, you’ll receive additional holiday and Christmas bonuses – plus 30 days of vacation per year. Not bad, right?

03

How does the apprenticeship work?

In addition to your training time at the company, you will attend the Technical College in Siegen. You will also take part in inter-company training courses at the Construction Industry Training Center NRW in Kerpen. This way, you’ll be perfectly prepared for your final exam.

What comes after the apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is the perfect career start or a springboard for further qualifications. These are some of your options:

  • (Part-time) advanced training as a civil engineering technician
  • Degree studies in civil engineering, architecture or similar fields.
